Man's Death At Bergen County Hotel Leads To Arrest Of Fentanyl Supplier: Prosecutors

A man was charged with fentanyl distribution in the death of an overdose victim at a Bergen County hotel.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A man was charged on Tuesday in the death of an overdose victim at a Bergen County hotel two years ago, prosecutors said.

Terry Redfern, 35, of Paterson, was charged this week with strict liability in a drug-induced death, said the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

Prosecutors said that on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, just after 11 a.m., the Elmwood Park Police Department responded to a medical emergency at a motel on Route 46.

They found a Bergen County man who had been "discovered lifeless by motel management," they said.

There were Indicators of a possible drug overdose, prosecutors said.

After an investigation, detectives determined that the man had ingested fentanyl, and that the fatal dose had been distributed by Terry Redfern.

He was taken to the Bergen County Jail to await a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court, prosecutors said.
