Minnesota Man Sexually Assaulted Bergen County Teen 3 Decades Ago: Prosecutor

A Minnesota man has been charged with sexually assaulting a child in 3 Bergen County towns in 1990 and 1991, prosecutors said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Minnesota man has been charged for the sexual assault of a child in Bergen County in 1990 and 1991, said prosecutors on Friday.

Jed D. Phykitt, 58, of Dalton, Minn., who used to live in Washington Township, was charged with sexual assault last week, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors said that on April 30 of last year, the Westwood Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding alleged incidents of sexual assault that "had occurred over three decades in the past."

An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit determined that Phykitt sexually assaulted a child in Westwood,
Washington Township, and Hillsdale on multiple occasions, between 1990 and 1991, when the child was between the ages of 13 and 16.

Last Thursday, with the assistance of the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office
Special Victims Unit located and arrested Phykitt.

He was charged with five counts of second-degree sexual assault.

He was taken to the Otter Tail County Jail in Fergus Falls, Minn., to await extradition to Bergen County.

County Prosecutor Mark Musella thanked the Otter Tail County Sheriff’’s Department, the Westwood Police Department, and the Park Ridge Police Department for their assistance in the investigation.
