NJ Camp Counselor Accused Of 'Inappropriately Touching' Kids: Report

Police are investigating allegations that a counselor at Ridgewood YMCA's Camp Bernie acted inappropriately toward campers, a report said.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — A Ridgewood YMCA summer camp counselor has been put on leave pending an investigation into allegations he "inappropriately touched child campers," Ridgewood YMCA President and CEO Ernest Lamour told lehighvalleylive.com.

A staff member in the day program at Camp Bernie was accused of "acting inappropriately with children at the camp," Lamour told lehighvalleylive.com.

In a statement to Patch, Lamour said Ridgewood YMCA has no further comment on the allegations at this time, and that the youth organization "would continue to cooperate fully with the authorities."

Camp Bernie facilities are located in Lebanon Township in Hunterdon County. Township Police Chief Jason Cronce told Patch that an investigation into the matter was turned over to the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office, and that any additional information must come from that agency.

A spokesperson for the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office, Captain Paul Approvato, told Patch there is an ongoing investigation into the allegations, and also declined to comment further.
