Bergen County Man Flees FBI, Crashes Into Cop Car: Police

When the FBI tried to capture a suspect in Bergen County, he drove into a police car, cops said.

HACKENSACK, NJ — A man who was fleeing an arrest by the FBI last week drove into a Hackensack police car, cops said.

Johnnie J. Harris, 30, of Hackensack, was charged Thursday with aggravated assault on a police officer and other offenses.

Hackensack Police Captain Darrin DeWitt said Harris was wanted in connection with a shooting incident in Hackensack on Oct. 4. That day, Harris had allegedly fired a handgun at a man with whom he was arguing on Newman Street, then fled in an SUV.

Last Thursday, the FBI North Jersey Violent Crime Task Force, the Passaic County Sheriff's Department Fugitive Warrant Squad, and the Hackensack police converged on a parked car on Prospect Avenue in Hackensack, where Harris was seated.

According to DeWitt, Harris attempted to drive away.

Harris's car struck a parked police car, and then he attempted to run, police said. After a struggle, Harris was arrested.

Besides assault on a police officer, he was charged with third-degree aggravated assault, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and other weapons charges.

He was taken to the Bergen County Jail to await his initial appearance at Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
