Report: GRHS Baseball Field Status Unclear

Officials have predicted an opening date of April 1, but bad weather could change that.

Though the hope is upgrades will be ready to allow first pitch by April 1, inclement weather has Glen Rock school officials unsure, according to a report in the Glen Rock Gazette.

School board member Rona McNabola did not reveal a revised timetable, according to the report.

She was quoted as saying: "In looking at the project schedule at that time, it was noted that we had 19 days of inclement weather (since the work started), so all the predictions of one more winter that was going to be dry and warm went right down the tubes. We did set up a meeting for this Thursday (Feb. 28) so we can update the group on what's going on."

Field upgrades include new dugouts, sprinkler systems, new infield clay, installation of sod in the outfield, and protective fencing. The contract to Turco Golf Inc. is worth $365,000.

To allow the grass sod on the baseball field to stabilize, soccer, football and lacrosse will not be permitted to use the baseball field in 2013.

A spate of poor weather was cited as one of the reasons the opening of the multipurpose field was delayed last fall.
