Report: Man Guilty of Fatal Hit-and-Run Gets 4 Years in Prison
An Allendale woman was killed after her car was struck by Rocco Benedetto, who pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and fleeing the Route 17 accident two years ago.

On a , Rocco Benedetto, 38, of Mahwah, first struck the vehicle of a woman in Ramsey and fled the scene before information could be exchanged. Then, according to prosecutors, he hopped on Route 17 South and his Mercedes struck the vehicle of 80-year-old Allendale resident Dorothy Scordato, which collided with another car. Benedetto again fled the scene.
Authorities said Benedetto was high on drugs when he drove that night, later dumping Xanax, Oxycotin and an anabolic steroid at the nearby Sunoco gas station garbage bin. He later called police and was arrested on charges of vehicular homicide.

Scordato was pronounced dead at shortly after the crash.
Benedetto, who ran a title company and owned several properties in the area, cut a plea deal, according to the report. He could have served up to two decades in prison.

Instead, he will serve at least 3 1/2 years and offered apologies to the victim's family in court, northjersey.com reported.
