The police officers acted bravely when a man, who needed psychiatric help, pulled out a knife and attacked and injured two officers.

Five police officers - four from Ridgewood and one from Glen Rock - were awarded for their courageousness at a Village Council meeting last week.

Ridgewood Sgt. Brian Pullman, Detective Peter Youngberg, Officer Rosario Vaccarella, Officer Raymond Tarino and Glen Rock Police Officer Murray Yang received the Combat Cross valor from their respective Police Chiefs for their “quick reactions, ... excellent training, and their cooperative skills” during a Nov. 18 disturbance call, according to The Ridgewood News.

A brief struggle ensued when the man, who needed psychiatric help, pulled out a knife and attacked the police officers, Patch previously reported. Two Ridgewood police officers received minor injuries and were treated and released from the hospital.
