Ridgewood Professor Gets Lifetime Achievement Award

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Philip Dolce studies people, where they live, and why.

Dolce, a Ridgewood resident, has earned the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who's Who, a biographical publication.

Dolce joined Bergen Community College in 1972. He has devoted much of his time to studying suburban landscapes and has chaired the social and behavioral sciences department. He has also been the dean of social sciences.

"The award is really meaningful because it highlights and focuses on the suburban environment — the lifeblood of the college — which serves the community and the students who attend the college."

Dolce also wrote a book about the suburban United States entitled "Suburbia: The American Dream and Dilemma."

Dolce has received several awards throughout his career, including the Excellence in the Art of Teaching Award by the National Education Association in 2002.

He also has hosted and produced hundreds of radio and television programs, including "Black Heritage," "Suburban Economic Development," and "Suburban Criminal Justice."
