The pair utilized online charity Donors Choose to provide funding for a Long Beach, New York elementary school. The funds will go toward recreating two kindergarten classrooms in a community where scores of residents have been displaced.

“We have already received wonderful updates from the kindergarten teachers that our donations went a long way in purchasing much-needed supplies for their classrooms,” Tips From Town Founder Dr. Karen Latimer said.

“The resilience and spirit of the teachers and students in Long Beach is truly inspiring. We are thrilled to help assist them in trying to get back to a sense of normalcy in their school day.”

The workout fundraiser is Latimer's second foray into Sandy fundraising. Her previous collection raised over $4,000 for storm victims in Breezy Point, NY.
