Scams, Serious Motorcycle Crash Reported: Glen Rock Police Blotter

Two scams and a motorcyclist seriously injured in a crash were reported in the past week in Glen Rock, Police Chief Dean Ackermann said.

GLEN ROCK, NJ — In the past week, two scams, a drunk-driving incident, a possible beauty salon robbery, and a serious motorcycle crash were reported out of Glen Rock. The following information was summarized from records of the Glen Rock Police Department.

June 27: A Glen Rock resident reported that two separate fraudulent loans, in the amounts of $20,000 and $35,000, were taken out in his name. The detective bureau has reviewed the matter and assigned it for further investigation, Police Chief Dean Ackermann said in a news release.

Another Glen Rock resident reported that a fraudulent loan was taken out in his name to purchase a vehicle from a Brooklyn dealership. The detective bureau has contacted the dealership, and is investigating the incident, in cooperation with out-of-state law enforcement agencies, police said.

June 28: A merchant in Glen Rock's central business district on Rock Road asked for police assistance in checking on the welfare of a highly intoxicated woman, who was unable to care for herself and said she had no family in the area. The woman, a 47-year-old from Neptune, was taken to a Paramus hospital for detox, police said.

June 30: A 60-year-old Glen Rock man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after a crash with dispute on Ackerman Avenue near Broad Street. John Vaughan was found to be highly intoxicated, and he was released to the custody of a family member. A summons for careless driving was also issued, police said.

July 2: An employee at Fei Fei Nail & Spa in the central business district reported that money was missing from the cash register. Initial investigation determined that an unknown man entered the store after closing; there were no signs of forced entry.

July 3: A 59-year-old Rochelle Park man was ejected from his motorcycle and suffered severe injuries on Route 208 northbound, after he drove over a defective overpass expansion joint, which is a gap that accommodates thermal movement of a structure. Police shut down the highway and rendered first aid to the man, Ackermann said.

Furthermore, traffic was diverted from the northbound lanes of Route 208, until the New Jersey Department of Transportation could repair the expansion joint, police added.
