Disabled Teen Sues High School In Bergen County For Wrongful Expulsion: Report

A student's family says a Bergen County technical school expelled him over an incident that started with a toilet clog, an article says.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A disabled teen had once considered Bergen County Academies — a public technical high school based in Hackensack — his "dream school," until he was assaulted and wrongfully expelled, according to a lawsuit reported in the Record of Hackensack last week.

The teen's family is suing the the Academies' Teterboro campus, saying the expulsion caused a downward mental health spiral for the teen, the Record article says.

The family alleges that after the student accidentally clogged at toilet at school in 2023, he approached administrators to apologize — but an administrator yelled at him and smacked him on the back, the story says.
