Holiday Season Brings Several Athletic Tournaments

With holiday break just around the corner, winter athletes at Bergen Catholic and River Dell have set their eyes on the various holiday tournaments they will be competing in. Below are the respective holiday tournaments and schedules:

BCCA George Jockish Holiday

Wrestlers from around the county will be crossing the border to Suffern, NY for the annual holiday tournamet at Rockland Community College.

The two-day tournament begins on Dec. 29 with preliminaries at 11am followed by the wrestlebacks and quartefinals at 5pm. Those wrestlers that advance on the mat will take part in Dec. 30th semifinals at 10:30am, consolations at 4pm and the finals at 6pm.

Holiday Hoop Jam at River Dell

The Lady Hawks brought home the for their own tournament last year after beating out Northern Highlands. Don't be surprised if either one of those teams reach the finals again.

Opening round games are on Dec. 26 with Wayne Valley vs. Ramapo at 12pm, Ridgewood vs. Northern Highlands at 1:45pm, North Bergen vs. Paramus at 3:30pm and River Dell vs. Secaucus at 5:15pm.

Dec. 29 will pit the losing team from Wayne Valley/Ramapo vs. losing team of No. Highlands/Ridgewood at 12pm, losing team from North Bergen/Paramus vs. either River Dell or Secuaucus at 1:45pm. Looking to advance to the championship game will be the winner of Wayne Valley/Ramapo vs. No. Highlands/Ridgewood at 3:30pm and the winner of North Bergen/Paramus vs. RiverDell/Secaucus at 5:15pm.

The last day of the tournament is Dec. 30 with the 7th place game at 12pm, 5th place game at 1:45pm, 3rd place game at 3:30pm and the championship title game at 5:15pm.

Bergen Holiday Festival at Bergenfield

For the first year the River Dell Golden Hawks are not hosting the Holiday Jamboree and instead will compete in the Bergen Holiday Festival at Bergenfield.

The three-day tournament tips off on Dec. 27 with River Dell facing Elmwood Park at 4pm, followed by Bogota vs. Westwood at 5:30pm and ending with Bergenfield vs. Secaucus at 7pm.

Dec. 29 feaures the losing team of Bogota/Westwood vs Bergenfield/Secaucus at 4pm, Dwight-Englewood which had a first day bye faces either RiverDell or Elmwood Park at 5:30pm and the day finishes with the winner of Bogota/Westwood vs. the winner of Bergenfield/Secaucus at 7pm.

The tournament concludes with a fifth place game on Dec. 30, 4pm; a third place game at 5:30pm and the championship round at 7pm.

Charles H. Housley Classic at Ice House, Hackensack

Four teams will take to the ice on Dec. 26 starting with RiverDell/Westwood vs. Hackensack at 3pm followed by Lakeland vs. Old Tappan at 6pm.

The consolation and championship games will be played on Dec. 28, with times to be determined.
