Street Sign Honoring Crossing Guard Joe Maugeri & Holocaust Education Day Lead the Week

River Edge Cherry Hill fourth grade students Julia Panchi, Andreia Lisboano, ToniAnne Gagliostro, along with their teacher, Mr. Hall, and classmates, wrote a letter to the Mayor and Council requesting that veteran crossing guard, and veteran of WW2, Joe Maugeri be honored for his dedication in keeping  parents and students safe while crossing Bogert Road every school day.

They proposed to have his crossing area designated with a sign post bearing his name and the Mayor and Council agreed. The unveiling ceremony is scheduled to take place Wednesday, June 5 at 10:00am, in front of Cherry Hill School where the Cherry Hill School community and Mayor and Council will officially dedicate "Joe Maugeri Crossing."

Also on Wednesday, June 5, the River Dell Middle School will be hosting Holocaust Education Day. This program expands the memoir unit the eighth-grade classes have been studying as part of their curriculum. 

During the full-day program, the eighth-grade students will take part in various group activities facilitated by Holocaust survivors, concentration camp liberators, and educators from the Holocaust Museum and Study Center of Spring Valley, New York.

There will be a regular meeting of the River Edge Mayor and Council on Monday, June 3. The work session will begin at 7pm and the public meeting will begin at 8 pm in the council chambers of Borough Hall.
