Sunday: Historical Society Looks at 1782 Murder of Cornelius Nefie

  • Following today's masses at St. Joseph Church of Oradell/New Milford, the St. Joseph’s Jr. Youth Group and St. Joseph Social Concerns Committee will be sponsoring a Project Valentine this weekend. Home baked treats will be on sale after all the Masses at the Harrison Street entrance.
  • St. Joseph’s Track enrollment is open for any child in Kindergarten through Grade 8 enrolled in St. Joseph’s School or a member of the Parish who attends CCD from 10:15 to 11:30am in the Lower School Gym. There are no try–outs or cuts from track . Registration Fee is $50 per child, $85 per family - fee up until Feb 16. Late Registration Fee will increase to $65 per child, $100 per family – fee after Feb 16.
  • To honor Black History Month 2011, the Bergen County Historical Society presents noted Revolutionary War historian and reenactor Todd Braisted, who will discuss the 1782 murder of Loyalist Cornelius Nefie by a group of African-American woodcutter/soldiers under Major Thomas Ward, commander of the Refugee corps entrenched at Bergen Point at 2pm. Mr. Braisted will speak in the Revolutionary War landmark Steuben House. From 1 to 4 PM, visitors are welcome to view the museum collections of the Bergen County Historical Society, displayed in the 1752 Zabriskie-Steuben House, to partake of refreshments served à la carte in a restored 18th-century tavern in the Campbell-Christie House, to browse our unique Gift Shop, and to visit the historically furnished 1794 Demarest House Museum and working Jersey Dutch Out Kitchen.
  • The River Dell Golden Hawks, who missed out on a bid for the Bergen County Jamboree, head to Leonia High School at 3:30pm for the Bergen Invitation Tournament.
  • The BC Crusaders hockey team finishes its regular season at the Ice House, 4:15pm against Gloucester Catholic. The team will also honor the senior members of the team.
