“Take Three!”: Competition for V Awards Runs Through March

In an effort to celebrate excellence in student-produced television content and inspire creativity among the next generation of broadcast professionals, MSG Varsity and The New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NY NATAS) are partnering for the third consecutive year to bring the MSG Varsity V Awards to all high school students in Cablevision’s service area. This program fosters media creation by providing students with a platform to create and showcase their own television content about the positive things happening at their schools.

Submissions will be accepted through March 30, 2012.

“The MSG Varsity V Awards program is a unique opportunity for students to showcase their creativity and share their high school experiences through the lens of a camera,” said Theresa Chillianis, General Manager, MSG Varsity. “We’re proud of our continued partnership with The New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences to provide students and schools with this opportunity, and look forward to reviewing all of the submissions.”

“The MSG Varsity V Awards are a wonderful opportunity for students to push their creative abilities and put their television and production skills to the test,” said Jacqueline Gonzalez, Executive Director of the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. “Each year, the program raises the bar on how high students can take their talents, so we’re excited to see what this year’s entries have in store.”

Local schools are invited to submit student-produced television content in the following 10 categories to www.msgvarsityvawards.com during the application period:

• Best On-Air Talent – Sports
• Best On-Air Talent – Non-Sports
• Best Feature – Sports
• Best Feature – Non-Sports
• Best Editing – Sports or Non-Sports
• Best Videography – Sports or Non-Sports
• Best Full Game Coverage by a Single Camera
• Best Play-by-Play/Analyst
• Best Original Production Under Five Minutes
• Best Original Production Over Five Minutes 

All entries will be judged by television, production and broadcasting industry professionals from MSG Varsity and NY NATAS, and each will be evaluated on a diverse set of criteria ranging from production quality and narration to the organization of material and accuracy in reporting. Each winning entry will receive a $5,000 grant for their high school, and each winning student will be featured on a television special that will air this June on MSG Varsity, Cablevision’s iO TV (Channel Honorable Mention recognition has been added to each category of the V Awards this year.  Those recipients will receive a $1,000 grant for their high school.
