[Video] Mayor Watkins Honored by Many During Final Meeting
Following 22 years of service to the public of River Edge, Republican Mayor Margaret Watkins officially stepped down
For 22 years, Republican Mayor Margaret Watkins has been a staple of the River Edge governing body beginning as a councilwoman in 1989.
Appointed to fill an unexpired term, she was later elected to serve a full three-year term on the Council and since then has been reelected numerous times to sit on the dais. She was elected as Mayor in 1999.
At her final Sine Die meeting with the borough's council, she received commendations and words of praise from the council itself, the Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the River Edge VFW Post.

Watkins earned bachelor's and master's degrees in education, and is certified to teach high school in New York City and New York State, in biology and mathematics. She currently works as a consultant to the Lehman College MTTI program, and also adjunct professor, and supervisor of student teachers at New York City high schools.
