Week Ahead: Holiday Tournaments and River Edge Sine Die

Welcome to the "Week Ahead," a weekly column that highlights what is coming up this week in RiverDell as the River Edge council closes out the year in their last meeting while the Golden Hawks compete in a variety of .

Monday will see the start of the Lady Hawks Holiday Hoop Jam, Charles H. Housley Classic and and the final River Edge council work session and Sine Die meeting.

The Lady Hawks brought home the  for their own tournament last year after beating out Northern Highlands and will look to reclaim that title starting tonight at 5:15pm when taking the Secaucus Lady Patriots. Also competing for the title are Wayne Valley, Ramapo, Ridgewood, Northern Highlands, North Bergen and Paramus girls basketball teams.

Four varsity hockey teams will descend up the Ice House rinks for the annual Charles H. Housley Classic with River Dell/Westwood starting their tournament run at 3pm against Hackensack.

Republican Mayor Margaret Watkins will oversee her final work session meeting of her 22-year tenure beginning at 7pm. Afterwards the governing body will hold a Sine Die meeting to close out the end of the year business.

The River Dell Golden Hawks basketball team will spend the week in Bergenfield competing in the first ever Bergen Holiday Festival to be hosted by the Bears. Tip-off is at 4pm as the Hawks open the first day of the tournament against the Elmwood Park Crusaders.

River Dell and Bergen Catholic wrestlers will be joined on the mat by schools from around Bergen County at the BCCA George Jockish Holiday at Rockland Community College in Suffern, NY on Dec. 29 and 30.
