Week Ahead: Memorial Day Parades, Crusaders '12 Class Graduate

Both borough's will be honoring veterans, servicemen and women alike during Monday's annual Memorial Day parades. Oradell's parade begins at 9am at Memorial Field on the corner of Prospect and Park avenues. River Edge veterans and residents will walk at 10:30am from Wales Avenue to Veterans Memorial Park for services at 11am.

For the holiday all public school students won't actually return to class till Wednesday as the three districts utilize their remaining snow days for an extended holiday.

The River Edge Mayor and Council will be meeting at 6:30pm in on Monday to interview a potential planning professional to assist the governing body to move forward with redeveloping the southend of town. Once the governing body returns from closed session, they will discuss estimated tax bills and proceeding with drafting a resolution for the Special Events committee.

The , organized by the Hackensack Riverkeeper and United Water, will once again pit mayors from across the Pascack Valley in competition for the Mayor's Cup at 11:45am Saturday. Demarest Mayor Ray Cywinski is the . The Reservoir Challenge, a full day of guided paddles, kayak and canoe races, live music, a paddle carving demonstration, Whole Foods Market barbecue and nature walks. This is the one day of the year that the Oradell Reservoir is open to the general public for paddling.

The Class of 2012 will recieve their diplomas on Sunday during the 54th Commencement at Felician College in Lodi. Among this year's speakers will be Campus Minister Joshua Powers for the Invocation, President Brother Brian Walsh, and Principal Timothy McElhinney.

Games of the Week

Crusaders and Hawks track will be at the Bergen Meet of Champions on Tuesday, 4pm at Hackensack High School. Bergen Catholic then heads to Old Bridge High School in Matawan for the State Group Championships on Friday, 4pm and Saturday, 9am.

Bergen volleyball has a date with arch rival Don Bosco on May 30 in the state semifinals and the Crusaders are looking for revenge after being ousted from the County tournament.

After beating Union Catholic last week, Bergen Catholic baseball heads to top seeded Seton Hall Prep on May 29 for a state quarterfinals match up.
