Week Ahead: Teddy Roosevelt Comes to Town; Generator Discussions Continue

A quick look at what is coming up this week in RiverDell

Back in February Engineer Kenneth DelPercio provided River Edge with two options for installing a new generator at the public safety building. At that time he suggested installing a 250-kilowatt generator to cover both buildings which included a high labor intensive cost or a 175-kilowatt system to only cover the . During Monday night's work session, the council is expected to continue that discussion and hopefully begin to move forward with the project.

The Oradell Mayor and Council is meeting on Tuesday at 7pm for a work session.

Travel back in time on Wednesday, 6:30pm with the Bergen County Historical Society as they host a , 705 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell. Join Progressive candidate Theodore Roosevelt as he takes to the campaign trail in Bergen County against incumbent President Howard Taft to win the NJ Republican primary. Making a career from his uncanny resemblance to our 26th President, Jim Foote will bring “Teddy” Roosevelt to life with his words and mannerisms. Arriving in a 1911 “Model T” Touring Car, loaned for the occasion by Manfred Rein, a member of the Half Century Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America, our Bull Moose candidate will greet a delegation of Suffragists and give a rousing campaign speech.

Baseball

Bergen has struggled in the past two weeks first with an 8-game losing streak, then winning two and then losing another, so this week is key for the Crusaders post-season efforts. Bergen takes on St. Joseph Regional on Monday, 4pm at Overpeck Park in Palisades Park; DePaul in Wayne on Tuesday, 4pm; Paramus on Wednesday at Overpeck Park in Ridgefield Park, 7pm; and then St. Mary's of Rutherford on Saturday at Overpeck Park in Ridgefield Park, 2pm.

River Dell is not drawing any easy competition this week as the Golden Hawks look to push themselves for good positioning in the post season. Things get started at Ramsey on Monday, 4:15pm; then Fort Lee is in town on Wednesday, 4:15pm; and the squad is away all weekend first to Old Tappan on Friday, 4:15pm and then to Point Pleasant Beach on Saturday, 1pm.

Softball

The Lady Hawks also have a tough week ahead of them starting with Ramsey at home on Monday, 4:15pm; at Fort Lee on Wednesday, 4:15pm and then host to Ridgewood on Thursday, 4:15pm for Senior Day.

Lacrosse

The Crusaders face Rumson-Fair Havein the in the final meet of the regular season on Wednesday, 6pm on the road.

River Dell splits the week home-away starting with Old Tappan on Monday, 5pm for Senior Day and then heading over to Fair Lawn on Thursday, 4:15pm to finish the regular season.

The Lady Hawks have started peaking just before the post-season but have three tough away games this week to finish out on a high note: Pequannock on Monday, 7pm, Scotch Plains on Wednesday, 4:30pm and Waldwick on Friday, 4:30pm.

Golf

Bergen competes for the United Division title at Valley Brook on Monday, 3:30pm; takes on St. Peter's Prep on Tuesday at Forest Hills Country Club, 3pm; Indian HIlls and Tenafly in a duel meet at Knickerbocker County Club Wednesday, 3pm and finishes the week at the Big North Championship on Thursday, 3pm at Valley Brook Golf Club.

The Hawks head into the Patriot Division Championship on Monday, 12pm at Darlington County Course in Mahwah and then to the Big North Conference Championship on Thursday, 9am at Valley Brook Course in River Vale.

Tennis

The Crusaders draw St. Joseph Regional (Monday, home), Paramus (Wednesday, home) and Old Tappan (Thursday, away) this week. Match time is 4pm.

River Dell may not have a winning season this year but are still looking for a wild card entry into the state tournament. Additional wins this week would secure that option: at Ramsey on Monday, at Tenafly on Tuesday, home against Fort Lee on Wednesday and home on Friday against Rutherford. Matches begin at 4:15pm.

Volleyball

Voleyball takes on Passaic Monday, 4pm (away) and then Bergen Tech on Tuesday, 4:15pm (home) before facing Hackensack in the Bergen County tournament on Thursday, 4:15pm in a rematch of the regular season where BC won. The team finishes the regular season on Friday at Clifton, 4pm.
