Weekly Review: State Aid, Potential Tax Hike

Both Oradell and River Edge got the good news this week that their will remain flat for the second year in a row. Oradell is expected to receive $792,225 while River Edge will once again have $1,070,715 added to the budget.

While state aid remained flat, each of the three schools districts averaged an following losing almost all of it two years ago. Each of the Boards of Education will next have to introduce a budget before it can be submitted to the County.

For River Edge taxpayers, the council is currently working with . Either way residents are likely to see an increase in their taxes ranging from $154 to $185 on the average assessed home.

Rather than seek a grant through Rebuilding Together Bergen County towards renovating the , the governing body will continue moving forward with seeking  the building along with conceptual plans on expanding the nearby .

Along with the rest of Bergen County, RiverDell saw more than its fair share of severe weather emergencies in 2011. And when the power goes out for days at a time, proved successful in connecting emergency services with residents as each town turned to Nixle.
