Winter Sports Begin for Hawks and Crusaders
The weekly recap of River Dell and Bergen Catholic sports returns

At the second annual Crusader Classic bowling tournament at Bowler City in Hackensack on Dec. 3 the boys' team title went to Hackensack (2,800) and the overall girls title to Bergen Tech (2,643). Individual titles were awarded to Ramapo's Mike Carr (680 series) for the boy's division and Belle Estee Dante of Bergen Tech (665 series) for the girl's.
While hosted by Bergen Catholic, the Crusaders bowling team did not compete in the event; instead BC hosts the inaugural event to raise money for the team.
The River Dell/Westwood co-operative hockey team started their season off with a 2-1 loss to the Fair Lawn Cutters. While the defense for both squads kept to a scoreless first period, Zach Rosenoff (RD) and John Polyak (FL) came up in the second to force a 1-1 tie before the final period. And while Hawks goalie Connor O'Reilly came up with 31 saves between the posts, Cutters Justin Ritter netted the go ahead goal to advance Fair Lawn for the win.
