Republican Senator calls for the reinstatement of the death penalty for child and cop killers

Following the death of two-year-old Tierra Morgan-Glover, Republican Senator Robert Singer (District 30) has introduced legislation that would reinstate the death penalty in New Jersey for those who murder a child, kill a police officer in the line of duty or commit a terrorist attack that results in fatalities.

Morgan-Glover was allegedly drowned by her father Arthur Morgan III when he supposedly tied a car jack to her car seat and thew her into a stream near Shark River Park in Wall. He is currently being held at the Monouth County jail in Freehold. If convicted he would currently face life in prison as the state abolished the death penalty in 2007.

“I do not support the death penalty out of a need for revenge or due to malice in my heart. Neither do the many individuals I have met who have suffered from heinous crimes, ” Singer stated. “I support the death penalty because sometimes it is the only way to achieve justice for the victims and families affected by horrible crimes.”

Under Bill S2674, if a defendant was found guily of capital murder, they could only be sentenced to death after a second proceeding sentencing. At that time, the jury our court would have to weigh the aggravating factors of the case against the mitigating factors - such as if the victim/s was a police officer, a child or died as the result of a terrorist attack.

Singer noted that his legislation would apply to the man who allegedly drowned his 2 year old daughter, still strapped in her weighted down car seat, while conscious and alert.

“I am well aware that the death penalty will not bring back a murdered child, slain police officer or a victim of terrorism, ” Singer continued. “For certain crimes, however, life in prison is just not punishment enough.”
