WPU Senior Does Home Town Proud

Former Golden Hawk standout Adam Derner has hit a hot streak with the William Paterson University Pioneers

For the second consecutive week, River Edge resident and senior Adam Derner was selected to the D3baseball.com “Team of the Week”.

As the Pioneers first baseman/designated hitter, Derner has been batting .458 (11-for-24) with a .958 slugging percentage. He had four home runs, 13 RBI and an on-base percentage of .533 for the Pioneers. 

Derner went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored in an 11-5 victory against St. Joseph's-Long Island.  In an 8-3 win against Drew, Derner was 3-for-4 with two home runs, five RBI and two runs scored.  On April 5, he was 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored in a 7-2 conference victory at New Jersey City. The senior DH went a combined 4-for-9 with four RBI, a home and three singles in a sweep of Richard Stockton.

Prior to that, he was 4-for-6 with five RBI, blasting a home run and a double in a 15-12 victory at Manhattanville, March 27. Derner was perfent going 2-for-2 with a double and a home run to help the Pioneers to a 31-17 win against John Jay on March 28. In the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opener at No. 14 Rowan, Derner was a combined 4-for-8 with two RBI and three runs scored as the Pioneers defeated the Profs in the night cap, 6-1.

He has also been selected as the March 26 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Baseball Player of the Week.

The business administration major transferred to WPU from the University of Rhode Island where the former Ram hit .260 with six doubles in 2010, starting 18 of 36 games and appeared in 21 games with 17 starts in 2009, batting .220 with 13 hits, five runs and five RBI.

During his years as a River Dell Golden Hawk he won the triple crown for the first time ever with a .614 batting average, 13 home runs, and 48 RBI. He set school records in batting average, RBI, and slugging percentage his senior season as well as earning first-team all-state and all-county honors his final year in black and gold.
