2021 Elections: Vote-By-Mail Drop Box Set Up In Rumson

RUMSON, NJ — A vote-by-mail drop box has been set up at Rumson Borough Hall, located at 80 East River Road.

A total of 35 drop boxes are available in Monmouth County and their addresses can be found listed on the Monmouth County Clerk's Election Division website.

Voters can drop their ballots anywhere in the county up until 8 p.m. on November 2, 2021. You do not have to be a resident of the specific town where the box is to drop off the vote there, within Monmouth County.

All locations are open 24 hours a day and until 8 p.m. on election day unless noted. Drop boxes are under video surveillance and are monitored by the Monmouth County Board of Elections, which can be reached at 732-431-7802.

“Voting by mail provides a simple and convenient way to vote early,” said Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon. “It is important to remember that any registered voter can vote by mail for any reason. Every valid vote cast by mail will be included in the election results so residents do not have to worry that their vote will not be counted.”

To vote by mail, voters must first complete a Vote by Mail Ballot Application, which can be found here or by visiting the office of the county clerk or your hometown's municipal clerk. Applications must be received seven days before the election, on Oct. 26.

This year voters will have more ways and more days to vote in person than ever, according to Hanlon. Earlier this year, a new state law was passed mandating the option of in-person early voting in New Jersey.

In-person early voting will be available in 10 polling locations in Monmouth County between Oct. 23 and 31.

Voters who registered for vote-by-mail will not be able to cast their ballots in person. To check your voter registration status go to Vote.NJ.Gov and click on the "Am I Registered?" tab.

Rumson residents will vote for governor and state legislative seats, as well as board of education seats and two borough council seats.

Four candidates are running for three open seats on the Rumson Borough Board of Education: Linda James Smith, Mia Choate, James McManus and incumbent Charles H. Jones III running.

One spot is open for two Rumson-area candidates on the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Board of Education, with Joseph T. Kenney Jr. (incumbent) and Robert S. Morris running.

In district 13, democrats Erin Howard and Allison Friedman are running against republicans Gerard P. Scharfenberger and Vicky Flynn for the two General Assembly seats.

Republican incumbent Declan O'Scanlon Jr. will be challenged by democrat Vincent Solomeno III for State Senate.
