Life-Threatening Rip Currents Continue to Plague Monmouth County Beaches

Listen to lifeguards and stay out of the water, officials warn.

Life-threatening rip currents and dangerous surf conditions will continue to affect beaches up and down the Jersey Shore, weather forecasters say.

The dangerous conditions, the result of Hurricane Cristobal, have already resulted in the death of a South Plainfield teenager, who entered the water at an unguarded beach at Sandy Hook.

The National Weather Service’s Mount Holly office says wave heights are expected to be 3 to 5 feet today.

“These rip currents will be life-threatening to anyone who enters the surf,” the advisory says. “Heed the advice of lifeguards adn the beach patrol. Pay attention to flags and posted signs. Do not attempt to enter the water if lifeguards are not present.”
