A Light Cast on R-FH Tower Tradition

No, it's not Halloween. No, you're not color blind. Yes, the signature tower at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School is casting a green glow at night.

But the glow is not for lure of goblins, but more like a call-out to lepruchans or anything else Irish-spirited. The tower, along with other spots and residences in Rumson has been a primer to light the green path to Sunday's first annual Rumson St. Patrick's Day Parade.

At the high school, they're calling the green tinge of the tower "Wearin' o' the Green." Call it whatever you like. There's a green glow in the spirit of the event and St. Patrick's Day itself lighting the way through town.

As for the high school, itself, students will be marching and participating in pre-parade events, school officials said.

"Many R-FH students plan to participate in the parade, which will step off at 1 p.m. from Victory Park at the corner of West Lafayette Street and River Road in Rumson," a released statement from R-FH said. "The R-FH marching band and cheerleaders will perform and march in the parade. Students members of the R-FH Key Club and the basketball team will participate as well. The R-FH students will be among those presenting cultural and educational programs in Victory Park prior to the start of the parade."

The tower is not only the R-FH signature symbol, it has been the host of many a tradition over the years. In years past, it was a challenge to climb the tower before graduating. There have been many photos of students reaching the top and giving a wave. Do you have any?
