Rumson Police: Attempted Break-in

The alleged incident occurred in the daytime

Rumson police are alerting area residents that there was an attempted break-in at a West River Road home Monday afternoon and urge all to be watchful of solicitors.

The homeowner, who was in the home at the time, observed a male alone near her front door, Rumson Police Detective Chris Isherwood said. The man, the victim told police, then went to the rear of the home and attempted to force two French doors open, "pulling them out with force," Isherwood said she reported.

The alarm was activated and police responded, but the alleged trespasser was not found. He was described as (possibly) bald with facial hair, Isherwood said.

Fair Haven and Little Silver police assisted in locating the man, but he has not yet been found.

Residents are urged to call the Rumson police at 732-842-0500 with any further information they may have about the alleged incident or the man's whereabouts.

Police ask that residents to dial 9-1-1 if they observe any suspicious persons or vehicles.

They advise that as door-to-door solicitors become active in the spring, all must have a permit to solicit and obtain a permit from Borough Hall to do so. If someone comes to your home claiming to be a solicitor and does not have a permit, contact police, Isherwood said.
