Spring Brings Bloom of Sidewalk Cafes
Fair Haven officials encourage outdoor eating, use of new sidewalks
Spring has sprung and sidewalk seating at Fair Haven eateries is starting to sprout around town.
Tavolo Pronto was recently granted its permit to have dining tables outside, which last year were on the side of the Italian eatery.
Fairwinds Deli has applied for its permit, but, according to Mayor Ben Lucarelli, must still "satisfy some minor convenants of its developer's agreement" before the permit can be approved.

The old Java Stop turned Booskerdoo has always had a few tables outside for the warmer months and its owners are expected to apply, but have not yet. The coffee shop is slated to open soon.
Owners of Balderose Fine Foods, which replaced Gourmet Picnic, at the corner of Fair Haven and River roads, told Patch they were anxious to get tables set up for outdoor dining when they open, which is expected to be any day now, but, according to Lucarelli, they have not yet applied for the permit.

"We want businesses to use the sidewalks, especially for this purpose," Lucarelli said. "We had all this work done on our sidewalks and they should be put to full use for this sort of amenity in the warmer months. Council President Jonathan Peters is especially a fan of using the sidewalks."
