Surf BBQ in Rumson Closes, As 'New Chapter' Is Anticipated

Surf Bar & Grill announced its closure as of Monday, Sept. 4. Owner Victor Rallo said he'll release more details about plans for the spot.

RUMSON, NJ —Surf Bar & Grill in Rumson has closed as of Monday, but owner Victor Rallo Jr. assured patrons of plans for a "new chapter."

"It is closed as we chart our next steps," Rallo confirmed on Tuesday. It closed as of Sept. 4.

In Monmouth County, Rallo also owns Birravino in Red Bank and Undici Taverna Rustica in Rumson, specializing in high quality Italian fare.

Rallo operated Surf BBQ for seven "wonderful years" and he thanked "our customers, friends and wonderful community."

The restaurant served traditional Southern barbecue plus beer, whiskey and cocktails amid wooden communal seating at 132 E. River Road. It was the site of the former Molly Maguire's Black Point Inn.

"As we plan a new chapter, we are looking forward to sharing more details with you," a note on the restaurant website said.

Rallo has appeared as the host of "Eat! Drink! Italy!" on Create TV, according to his website. A resident of Fair Haven, he is also an author and wine critic, according to his online bio.
