Sweet Rumson Digs for Cups & Cakes
The move to the old Rumson Market was made in late December.

There's a cornerstone spot in Rumson that's gone from meats to sweets — with a side of soothing familiarity.
Cups & Cakes Bakery has expanded and moved its shop to what was for many years Rumson Market.
While, yes, Rumson market had more than fresh butcher block meats, including a few locally made sweets on the counter, the suburban bodega was known for its quality cuts, specialty sandwiches, gourmet goodies and pop-in-and-chat culture.
Cups & Cakes has made its own way the same sort of hometown niche world of baked goods, having set up shop in the nooks of couple of different stores on East River Road when they got started. Now the familiar townie market tradition continues at the corner spot at 122 East River Road — only things are a bit sweeter, literally, in the foodie factor with some sit-down appeal to boot.
"They've grown tremendously, and have found that they need the extra space," Mayor John Ekdahl said. "The Rumson Market venue suited them perfectly. It was available, so they took it."
The move was made without fanfare at the end of December, but there will be a grand opening celebration on Jan. 25 at noon and an open house until 5 p.m. offering samples of baked goods and new juices.
The new spot satiates a need in the area for a cozy morning hub in which to grab a cup of coffee, tea or juice and a treat and hang out and chat for a while, something that owner Denise Kelleher said she's "especially excited" about.
The expansion also allowed room for a new juice bar and basic grocery items in addition to the signature specialty coffees, teas, breakfast items, cookies, cakes, cupcakes, custom cakes, desserts and gift baskets offered. Cups & Cakes is also offering expanded breakfast catering services.
"Our larger space and central location will help us to better accommodate the needs of our clients,” said Kelleher in a released statement. “We’re also pleased to continue being part of the downtown Rumson business community.”
