Your Rumson-Fair Haven Election Guide

The polls open at 6 a.m.

Voters hitting the election polls on from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 5 in Rumson and Fair Haven will face one uncontested borough council race for two seats and another that only recently became hotly contested by a last-minute write-in campaign along with two familiar Democratic challengers.

In Fair Haven, the council race for two seats now filled by Rowland Wilhelm Jr. and Jonathan Peters, who have both elected to run for additional terms are uncontested in this election. Click here for a sample ballot.

In Rumson, incumbent Joseph Hemphill is running for another term while Joan DeVoe opted not to. Laura Atwell is running on the Republican ticket with Hemphill.

Familiar Democratic challengers Michael Steinhorn and Philip Wagner have tried to break the longstanding Republican majority on council for several years and have not succeeded. Their campaign was a quite one. Patch questionnaires were forwarded to both via the Monmouth County Democratic Party and not returned.

Write-in candidates running on a self-designed Rumson Family ticket, Tim McCooey and Tom Ridgway, say they are registered Republicans but prefer to run on an issue-oriented rather than party-affiliated platform. The two mounted a campaign very recently. Each filled out a questionnaire.
