SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — A new coffee cafe has joined the Scotch Plains community.

"Godwit Coffee" marked Small Business Saturday this year by opening its newest location on Nov. 29 at 2015 Westfield Ave.

Labeling themselves as "specialty coffee roaster," Godwit looks to transport customers across the world with different offerings that they may not otherwise have. They also use proceeds from sales to help support missionary work, disaster relief, and fight human trafficking across the globe.

The cafe's name, Godwit, can be traced back to the Bar-Tailed Godwit bird. The bird species most notably covered 7,580 miles non-stop during a migration from Alaska to New Zealand.

"The bird's extraordinary ability to travel vast distances without pause mirrors our mission to extend our efforts far and wide, impacting lives across the globe," the team at Godwit said.

This adventurous mission applies right down to the varieties of coffee you can sample at Godwit.

Along with their essential line of blends, decaf, and espresso, Godwit incorporates inspiration from other countries to their menu.

A current offering at the shop is "India, Pearl Mountain." The butterscotch, apple, pistachio brew is available for both delivery and pickup now through the Godwit website.

"When you enjoy our coffee, you're also helping us make a difference in communities around the world," management added.

This is the first storefront and second overall location for Godwit. The team also manages a mobile trailer location at 1961 Raritan Rd.
