Meadowlands Brush Fire Burning On NJ Turnpike Near Lincoln Tunnel

There is a large brush fire currently burning as of 3:00 p.m. Thursday in the Meadowlands in Secaucus:

SECAUCUS, NJ — There is a large brush fire currently burning as of 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Meadowlands .

The fire is in the marsh that surround the NJ Turnpike as it runs through the Meadowlands, said Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller. It started at around 3 p.m.

The fire is very close to the Turnpike, he said.

Secaucus Police report the fire is: "Near New Jersey Turnpike marsh area between exits 15X and 16E. As per officers, no current threat for Secaucus structures."

Smoke from the fire can be seen by drivers on the Turnpike, and as they head into the Lincoln Tunnel into Manhattan. Secaucus Police warn residents and drivers will see and smell smoke, and may even see ash in the air.

On extremely hot, dry days, brush fires can occur in the Meadowlands.
