SECAUCUS, NJ — Starting Monday, Oct. 16 the pickleball courts in Buchmuller Park will be closed for the next four to five weeks.
This is because the courts are going to be entirely replaced.
Those courts used to be tennis courts, but a few years ago the town of Secaucus hastily converted them to pickleball to accommodate growing demand for pickleball. The nets and paint down currently was always meant to be temporary, said Mayor Mike Gonnelli.

In the past year, Secaucus applied for and was given a $586,000 grant from the county, which will fund the permanent installation of pickleball courts at Buchmuller.
The work to install them begins Monday. It does unfortunately mean the courts will be closed for up to five weeks.

There are no other pickleball courts in Secaucus. However, for those still looking to play this October and into November, there are the tennis courts at Laurel Hill, at Shetik soccer fields and at Secaucus High School, said Gonnelli.
The town said the new pickleball courts will "be completed well ahead of the spring (2024) playing season."
Part of that $586,000 grant from Hudson County will also pay for the refurbishment of the soccer turf fields at Shetik Field.
