Carnegie Diner In Secaucus Has 'Soft' Opening This Wednesday

SECAUCUS, NJ — Have you been dying to try Carnegie Diner, only the latest addition to Secaucus' growing restaurant scene?

Well, your time has come. Carnegie Diner will have a soft opening this Wednesday, according to the restaurant's owner Stathis Antonakopolos.

"Wednesday night will just be family and friends. We will then have a soft opening this Wednesday and Thursday, opening at reduced hours, I think from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and serving a limited menu," he explained. "The public is welcome to stop by during those days, and we are actually offering 50 percent off all meals. However, this will be a training period for our staff, as many of them are new and we are viewing these two days as a chance to train and get everyone familiar. We call it mock service during those two days."

By Friday, or at the very latest Saturday, Carnegie Diner will be open for its regular business hours ('till 11 p.m. nightly) and serving its full menu, he said.

Carnegie Diner is located at 700 Plaza Drive, the space occupied for years by the very last remaining Cheeseburger in Paradise in the United States, after the chain closed.

Antonakopolos owns a Carnegie Diner in Manhattan, right across Seventh Avenue from Carnegie Hall, and he said he and his partners jumped at the chance to open a second location right outside the city in Secaucus.

"We think of it as an upscale modern diner; we have all the diner classics like omelettes, eggs, sandwiches, pancakes and we serve breakfast all day, but the menu is more modern," he said. "We are still waiting to get our liquor license from the state, but once we get that we will also have a full bar."
