JERSEY CITY, NJ — The following are offered from the NJ Department of Environmental Protection:

Pre-registration is required for all programs unless specified. Space is limited. For more information or to register for a program, please contact the Nature Center at 201-915-3400, ext. 503 or email LSPNatureCenter@dep.nj.gov. Children must be accompanied by an adult. You may register a maximum of six participants per reservation. Pets are not permitted on programs unless they are service animals. Schedule is subject to change.

Saturday, December 6 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Holiday Pomanders Workshop

In this hands-on workshop, we will use natural materials found in Liberty State Park to create ornamental wreaths. Once dried, these beautiful handmade wreaths can last forever. Decorate your home or give them as gifts! All materials will be provided. We will meet at the CRRNJ Terminal located at 1 Audrey Zapp Drive. This program is co-sponsored by the Friends of Liberty State Park. Recommended for ages 6 & up.

Saturday, December 13 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Caven Point Volunteer Shoreline Cleanup

Looking for volunteer opportunities in Liberty State Park? Come help lend a hand cleaning up the shores of Caven Point Beach by removing trash that has come in with the tides. We will meet at Lot #1 located at 300 Morris Pesin Drive. The walk to the beach is approximately 1 1/2 miles round trip. Please dress to be outdoors, wear shoes that can get wet/muddy, and bring work gloves if you have them. Recommended for ages 6 & up.

Saturday, December 20 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Winter Waterfowl Walk

Liberty State Park is a key destination for migrating winter waterfowl. Join us for a guided walk to Caven Point to learn about some of these winter visitors and resident species that can be seen throughout the year. Please dress to be outdoors, wear shoes comfortable for walking, and bring binoculars if you have them. We will meet at Lot #1 located at 300 Morris Pesin Drive. The walk is about a mile and a half round trip. Recommended for ages 8 & up.

Sunday, December 28 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Evergreen Walk and Craft

Come on out to Liberty State Park and join us for a close-up investigation of evergreen trees. We will learn how to identify different types of evergreens and discuss the valuable roles these trees play in nature. Following the walk, we will make pinecone bird feeders to take home and help our feathered friends find some food during the chilly winter months. Bird feeders will contain vegetable shortening, cornmeal, and birdseed. Please dress to be outdoors and wear shoes comfortable for walking. We will meet at the Nature Center located at 275 Freedom Way. All ages welcome.

Tuesday, December 30 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Storytime and Craft

Come on out to the Nature Center to hear a seasonal story about the different kinds of wildlife and habitats found in Liberty State Park, and then make a story-related craft to take home with you. We will meet at the Nature Center located at 275 Freedom Way. All ages welcome.
