SECAUCUS, NJ — Secaucus will have a big shot at fame this Friday, and it's because some scenes for a new romantic comedy were filmed at the Red Roof Inn.

Yes, the same motel the Secaucus Police Department vice squad has been monitoring for years now due to ongoing prostitution and drug sales.

"Maybe I Do" is a rom-com starring Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon (an Edison native), Richard Gere, William H. Macy and Emma Roberts. It will be released in movie theaters this Friday (well, U.S. movie theaters that are still in business).

The movie is about "marriage and commitment," according to press materials. Here is a preview, which gives a pretty good summary of what it's about: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2...

"The movie follows a young couple who have reached the point in their relationship where they are considering next steps. They decide to invite their parents to finally meet and offer their insights about why marriage works. Turns out, the parents already know one another quite well, which leads to some differing opinions about the value of matrimony."

Mayor Mike Gonnelli confirmed that Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon were indeed in Secaucus "some time ago" filming at the Red Roof Inn.

"I really don't know what kind of scenes," said the mayor.

"I can only imagine what kind of scenes," he sighed.

"At the Red Roof Inn, they filmed in a room interior, lobby interior and exterior in the parking lot," said Steven Gorelick, executive director for the NJ Motion Picture and TV Commission.

Here is a press release from his office, announcing the movie was filmed entirely in New Jersey:

"Edison native Michael Jacobs wrote and directed 'Maybe I Do,' which features a remarkable ensemble of esteemed actors. The movie was shot primarily in Montclair, at homes on Mountain Avenue and Edgemont Road, and at The George and MC Hotels. Other filming locations include the Cranford Theater and Craven BBQ in Cranford, Battello Restaurant in Jersey City, Crystal Plaza in Livingston, the Nutley Diner in Nutley, the Sandy Hill section of Paterson and the Red Roof Motel in Secaucus."

It's not hard to imagine which scenes were filmed amidst the multi-million dollar estates of Upper Montclair, and which were filmed on Meadowlands Parkway.
