SECAUCUS, NJ — Lorenzo's, a beloved Italian restaurant and bar in Secaucus, is permanently closing.

Its last day of business will be this Wednesday, Lorenzo's said on their Facebook page, saying the restaurant will be "closing its doors indefinitely" and "thanked everyone for the constant support over the past 29 years. It's been an amazing run."

Earlier this year, the Lorenzo's property was bought by Academy bus company across the street, said Secaucus Mayor Mike Gonnelli. He said Academy plans to tear the building that housed Lorenzo's down and repave it with a parking lot, and park buses there. Lorenzo's is located on County Ave. and just off the NJ Turnpike.

Lorenzo's was an old-school Italian restaurant beloved by Secaucus natives and old-timers, known for its traditional, home-style Italian dishes; their pink vodka sauce was among the best in North Jersey. But the restaurant failed to make inroads with Secaucus' newer residents.

Lorenzo's made the news in the summer of 2019, when "Jersey Shore" star Ronnie Ortiz-Magro said he "got jumped" in the parking lot of Lorenzo's and had his gold chain stolen from off his neck. He started off the season premiere "Jersey Shore: Family Vacation" with a visible black eye.

This prompted Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino to be shocked, famously asking "In Secaucus???!"

Gonnelli bemoaned their closure, calling it "one of his favorite restaurants in Secaucus." He said being forced to close in the pandemic was particularly difficult.
