NJ Makers' Day Is This Weekend At Secaucus Library

Their Friday afternoon workshop is full, but they have other events for kids Friday night and Saturday that do not require registration:

SECAUCUS, NJ — NJ Makers Day is a two-day celebration of kids building things across New Jersey, happening this year on Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22.

This all-ages event connects individuals with libraries, schools, businesses and independent makerspaces that support making, tinkering, crafting, manufacturing, and STEM based learning. Their Friday afternoon workshop is full, but they still have events other happening Friday night and Saturday that do not require registration.

Friday, March 21 6-7 p.m. Birdhouse Build-a-thon for teens, adults and families. Our goal is to build 60 birdhouses to donate to the Secaucus Environmental Department to help our local bird populations. No registration necessary. Supplies are limited and this event will end when all 60 birdhouses are assembled. Free and just show up with your kids ready to build.

Saturday, March 22. 10:30am-1:30pm- Our Birdhouse Build-a-thon continues, while supplies last!

Saturday, March 22. 11am- 12pm Makerspace Demonstration: Sublimation Printing. Learn about our new sublimation printer and transfer equipment and make a custom metal bookmark to take home. One bookmark per person, while supplies last. Happening on in our second floor meeting room.

Saturday, March 22 12:30-1:30 p.m. Makerspace Demonstration: Large Format Printer. Stop by the main library's first floor to learn about our large format poster and banner printer. Five lucky attendees will able to print a free large format poster using a photo on their camera or an image saved as a JPG file on a USB flash drive.

Saturday, March 22 11:30am-2pm. Maker Tables. We'll be setting up maker tables with some of our favorite arts and crafting supplies for families and adults to create their own maker-themed art and other crafts. We supply the materials — the rest is up to you!

Coming up this spring:

Friday, April 4th. 4pm-5pm. Crafty Friday. Drop in the main library and create a rainy day craft! For children ages 4 and up Crafts available while supplies last. This is a monthly program.

Monday, April 7th. 5:30pm-6:30pm. Literary Legos. Children ages 7-10 are invited to listen to a fun story and build a lego creation based on that story!

Second Saturday of Each Month. 2pm. Secaucus Gardening Club. Join the Secaucus Gardening Club in the main library's story tower and reading garden for a hands-on workshop to get started with gardening. If you are over age 12 and you have a garden of your own, a plot in a community garden, or are interested in volunteering to help with our library garden, please join us! Next meeting is April 12. New Members Welcome!

Friday, March 21st, Friday, April 11th, Friday, May 16th and Friday, June 20th. 6pm-7:30pm. Family Fun Night. Make a special craft each month with instructors Barbara Hennig and Destinee Salinas. Adults and children over the age of 6 (accompanied by an adult.)

Saturday, May 3 11am-3pm. Secaucus Green Festival. Be sure to visit our booth at the Secaucus Green Festival for STEM reading lists, Nature-themed or upcycled crafts and more. Happening outside at the XChange Apartment Complex at 4000 Riverside Station Blvd, just around the corner from the Katherine Steffens Annex. Raindate: Sunday, May 4th.

June 5 4pm-5:30pm. World Environmental Day. Join the Secaucus Public Library and the Environmental Department for this fun and educational program. Enjoy our special guest speakers and their animal ambassadors, learn about the major factors that threaten animals with endangerment and extinction worldwide, discover how people both directly and indirectly affect the earth's biodiversity and more. Additional details will be announced soon!
