People Shoot Fireworks At Secaucus Police Cars, Climb On Squad Cars As Cops Break Up Street Racing
More than 100 cars were doing doughnuts in the middle of County Avenue Saturday night, and people then swarmed responding Secaucus Police.
SECAUCUS, NJ — Secaucus Police officers came "under attack" Saturday night, said Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller, when more than 100 cars convened in the center of County Avenue and were doing doughnuts in the middle of the street, and participants then swarmed the police cars that responded.
At approximately 2:31 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 31 Secaucus Police received a report that more than 100 cars “took over” the intersection of Secaucus Road and County Avenue. They were driving recklessly and doing donuts, while onlookers took videos of them.
The cars were in the middle of County Avenue, doing doughnuts and swerving in the road, said Secaucus Mayor Mike Gonnelli.

Upon the arrival of Secaucus Police, more than 50 people then began to surround the police patrol cars, while others climbed on top of the marked police cars, said police. The public caused some damage to police cars.
People in the crowd then shot fireworks at and under the marked police cars. Police said they were using the fireworks as incendiary devices.

Mutual aid needed to be called in to disperse the mass gathering, with officers responding from Weehawken, North Bergen, Hoboken, Hudson County Sheriff’s Office, East Rutherford and Rutherford.
No police officers were injured.
“Our officers came under attack last night and I will not tolerate this unrest,” said Miller in a Facebook post on this incident. “I will be dedicating resources from our Traffic Bureau, Detective Division, Patrol Division and Intelligence Section to assemble a Task Force to identify the individuals responsible for this riotous behavior and bring them to justice. Secaucus is not going to be the place where these criminals operate with impunity!”

"They will make arrests on this," said the mayor. "Stay out of Secaucus. We're going to get you. You're going to be arrested."
