Priest Who Died In Secaucus Catholic Church Identified

The priest who was found dead in the church rectory is now identified. No foul play is suspected.

SECAUCUS, NJ — A priest was found dead Sunday in a building owned by the Catholic church in Secaucus; however, no foul play is suspected.

The priest who died is Father Jose Marie, Immaculate Conception church announced Monday morning in this Facebook post. He was 65 years old.

His body was found Sunday morning inside the rectory, which is a home owned by the church and where priests live.

The priest failed to appear for the 7 a.m. mass. People looked for the priest and Secaucus Police were then called. Police officers forced entry into the home and found the pastor, said Police Chief Dennis Miller. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Miller said no foul play is suspected.

"It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of our parochial vicar Fr. Jose Marie," said Immaculate Conception. "Father Jose was a devoted shepherd to our flock and we will remember him for his gentle spirit, dedicated ministry and kindness. His faithfulness was a gift to us all. Please keep Father Jose, his family and our entire parish community in your prayers during this difficult time."

Details on his funeral mass will be published once they are finalized.
