Secaucus Hospital Gets "C" Grade For 3rd Year In A Row; Its Owner Will Close Christ Hospital
Hudson Regional Health announced Thursday Christ Hospital will close, effective immediately. They can't even make Friday's payroll:

SECAUCUS, NJ — Leapfrog just released its 2025 Hospital Safety grades this week, and Hudson Regional Hospital in Secaucus was given a "C" grade for patient safety for the third year in a row.
The Secaucus town hospital has dropped in the rankings: In 2022, it was given "A" and "B" grades from Leapfrog for patient safety.
You can read Leapfrog's entire 2025 assessment of Hudson Regional Hospital here: https://www.hospitalsafetygrad... Hudson Regional ranked lower than average in patient falls and injuries, said Leapfrog. Hudson Regional also did not submit certain documents or data Leapfrog requested — another reason for its low grade.

The Secaucus town hospital is owned by Yan Moshe, a real estate developer. In 2024, he took over ownership of three other hospitals in Hudson County: Bayonne Medical Center, Hoboken University Medical Center and Christ Hospital — which he renamed Heights University Hospital.
All four hospitals, including Secaucus, would operate under the name Hudson Health System, he said.

However, this fall Moshe announced controversial plans to close Christ Hospital, which was met with backlash by some in Jersey City.
On Thursday of this week, Hudson Regional Health CEO Nizar Kifaieh made the sudden and abrupt announcement that Christ Hospital will close, effective immediately. He even said there is no money to make Friday's payroll. Starting Saturday morning, Christ Hospital will only have a standalone ER on site.
"It was difficult to conceive of an employer that could be more harmful to its employees and its community than CarePoint has been in Hudson County. But Hudson Regional Health has surpassed CarePoint as the worst employer in Hudson County," HPAE, New Jersey's largest healthcare workers union, blasted the closure on Friday.
"Hudson Regional made this decision illegally with no regard for Department of Health regulations. What will happen to the patients in this community? Their employees have been left without a paycheck for two weeks of work and without future employment.”
Kifaieh blamed the sudden closure of Christ Hospital on a lack of emergency funding from the state:
"Unfortunately, despite best efforts by the leadership at Hudson Regional, it was informed this afternoon that the state will not be providing the critical funding needed to sustain the operations of Heights University Hospital," Kifaieh said Thursday afternoon.
Hudson Regional Hospital already announced in two WARN notices to the state last month that it planned to lay off 206 workers at Christ Hospital.
Bayonne Medical Center, Hoboken University Medical Center and Christ Hospital were all owned by CarePoint, which declared bankruptcy last year.
