Secaucus Mayor Reveals Cause Of Nighttime Road Work Noise

Mayor Gonnelli plans to file a complaint with NJ Turnpike Authority, informing them Secaucus residents have heard the roadwork since June:

SECAUCUS, NJ — On Tuesday morning, Mayor Mike Gonnelli said he looked into it, and here is the source of what is causing early-morning and late-night construction noise in Secaucus:

It is construction taking place on the NJ Turnpike in Bergen County, on the other side of the Hackensack River. The NJ Turnpike Authority is doing pile driving on the Turnpike there, and the noise from the pile driving carries very easily across the river, said the mayor.

Gonnelli said because it is the Turnpike and viewed as an essential road, the contractor may be able to do the work after normal hours when construction is permitted, which are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Secaucus.

However, Gonnelli said he's been getting complaints about the noise "since at least early summer. This has been a problem for a while."

Gonnelli said he is going to call the Turnpike Authority and see what hours they are permitted to work. He said if they continue to work in the evening hours, he will file a complaint with the Turnpike Authority, letting them know the people of Secaucus have been hearing the noise very late at night.
