Lyons, Geller, Howard In Lead In Secaucus School Board Election

SECAUCUS, NJ — An endorsement from Mayor Mike Gonnelli sure does make a difference.

At 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, with 92 percent of the voting districts reporting, the three school board candidates endorsed by Gonnelli are in the lead.

Here is the vote count so far, again with 92 precincts in (see it for yourself here on the Hudson County clerk website):

Voters were asked to choose three.

• Gerald Lyons - Excellence in Education: 2,233
• Tatiana Geller - Excellence in Education: 2,197
• Melissa Howard - Advocate for Education - appointed to the Board, asking voters to elect her to keep her on the board: 2,081
• Valerie Giraldo - Community Winning Resolutions: 1,432
• Audry Yule - Community Winning Resolutions: 1,255
• Monica Berckes - A Winning District: 1,195
• Jamie Fisher - The Peoples' Voice: 1,007

These are not final vote counts; mail-in ballots still have to be counted and the vote has to be certified.

It was a tough battle for school board this year in the small town of Secaucus, as the school district prepares to search for a new superintendent and will discuss redistricting its elementary schools again in 2025.
