A total of 10 teams from across Hudson County signed up to play in a four-on-four, half court basketball tournament.
SECAUCUS, NJ — Last Sunday, March 16, a local version of March Madness was held in Secaucus.
A total of 10 basketball teams from across Hudson County signed up to play in a four-on-four, half court basketball tournament. The games were held at the Rec Center. The tournament was a fundraiser for the Secaucus food pantry. It was $100 for each team to sign up and play, and it raised $1,500 for the food pantry.
Here is where teams came from: Secaucus Police, Secaucus Fire Dept., Natoli's, Harmon Cove Towers, Secaucus public school teachers, Osprey Cove, Fantastic Four, Coaches squad and two teams from Union City. One woman played in the whole tournament, a local yoga teacher and mother in town named Jade Alexis (she formerly played Division 1 college basketball). She was on the Harmon Cove Towers team.

The charity tournament was organized by Don Evanson, a Harmon Cove Towers resident who publishes the free monthly newsletter Secaucus Spectator.
Evanson presented the trophy to the Union City team. He will present a check to the Food Pantry at the Secaucus Council meeting next Tuesday. Sponsors of the tournament were Haven Bank, Hudson Regional Hospital, Keller Williams, MacCormack Insurance, Meadowlands YMCA, Premier Security, Secaucus Rotary and State Farm.
