JERSEY CITY, NJ — Here's everything planned in September from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, which runs the Nature Center in Liberty State Park:

Saturday, September 6 and Wednesday, September 10 - 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Monarch Magic!

Come on out to Liberty State Park and get up close and personal with the monarch butterfly! We’ll learn all about the life cycle, feeding habits and migration journey of this amazing little insect. There will also be a butterfly craft to make and take home. We will meet at the Nature Center located at 275 Freedom Way. Be sure to dress to be outdoors and wear shoes comfortable for walking. If it is a hot day, sunscreen, water, and insect repellent are also recommended. All ages welcome.

Saturday, September 20 12 - 2 p.m. Secrets of the Salt Marsh

Salt marshes are incredibly valuable habitats that have a variety of benefits. Find out what makes them so special during this unique walk. We will meet in Lot #3 located on Morris Pesin Drive and then walk over to our marsh area at Caven Point. Please be advised there is over two miles of walking involved. Be sure to dress to be outdoors and wear old shoes that can get wet or muddy. If it is a hot day, sunscreen and water are also recommended. All ages welcome.

Saturday, September 27 10 - 11 a.m. Native Plant Walk

Discover the beauty and benefits of local plants with our Park Naturalist and Trail Steward! Join us for an informative walk through our vibrant pollinator garden and walking trails. Learn simple tips to identify common native plant, fascinating facts about flowering natives and their role in the ecosystem, and uncover interesting past and present-day plant uses. We will meet at the Nature Center located at 275 Freedom Way. Please dress to be outdoors and wear shoes comfortable for walking. Recommended for ages 10 and up.

Sunday, September 28 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Hike to Caven Point

Join us on a leisurely hike to and explore the urban and natural shoreline of Upper NY Bay with views of the Statue of Liberty and New York Skyline. We’ll also explore the unique features of Caven Point Beach. We will meet in Lot #1 located at 300 Morris Pesin Drive and then walk over to our beach area. Please be advised there is over a mile and a half of walking involved. Be sure to dress to be outdoors and wear old shoes that can get wet or muddy. If it is a hot day, sunscreen and water are also recommended. All ages welcome.

Pre-registration is required for all programs unless specified. Space is limited. You may register a maximum of six participants per reservation. Pets are not permitted on programs unless they are service animals. SCHEDULE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
