Shotgun, Rifle Found In Car After Road Rage Arrest In Secaucus: Police

A road rage incident occurred Monday morning on Rt. 3, where one driver showed a gun magazine and threatened to shoot another.

SECAUCUS, NJ — A road rage incident occurred Monday morning on Rt. 3, where one driver showed a gun magazine and threatened to shoot another, said Secaucus Police. A rifle and a shotgun were then found in his car, said police.

This happened at 8:30 a.m. Monday: Police say a man driving a grey Nissan brandished a firearm magazine, while threatening to shoot the other driver. It was East Rutherford Police who first alerted Secaucus Police to be on the lookout for the grey Nissan, which Officer Justin Machno observed fleeing on Rt. 3 east.

Machno, with other patrol officers, stopped the car and detained the driver and sole occupant, identified as Travon Gantt, 25, of East Orange.

The other driver positively identified Gantt as the man who threatened him, said police.

Police then searched the Nissan, and said a rifle magazine loaded with 5.56 caliber rounds was located within the passenger compartment. Additionally, a Smith and Wesson M&P rifle and a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun were also located, along with numerous rounds of rifle and shotgun ammunition. Gantt was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose [2C:39-4a(1)] and two counts of Unlawful Possession of Rifle/Shotgun [2C:39-5c(1)]. He was taken to the Hudson County Jail.

“I am thankful that what could have been a volatile incident did not result in any injuries to the public or my officers,” said Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller. “The responding officers responded both professionally and with courage while confronting a person reported to have been armed and I am proud of them.”
