Spuntino Wine Bar In Clifton Launches 'Wine Walkabouts' For $45

CLIFTON, NJ — For those looking to try something new on lazy summer evenings, Spuntino Wine Bar in Clifton is launching "Wine Walkarounds."

Every third Thursday of the month, Spuntino will host a group wine tasting at their restaurant off Rt. 3 from 6-7:30 p.m. The tasting is hosted by Spuntino sommelier Regan DeBenedetto.

DeBenedetto will choose four different wines to introduce each month. Inside a private room in the restaurant, she will "walk" attendees through each glass.

"We'll be talking about what the wine is, where it's from and give some tasting notes. We provide some small bites as we taste the wines, such as meat and cheese, freshly made pasta and breads," she said. "We really are doing this to provide an experience for our guests. I anticipate it will be perfect for a date night, a girls' night, or even just something fun to do before you sit down for your full meal. And we did this on a Thursday because we know there are people who want to be home by 8 o'clock on a weeknight."

Attendees will be sampling wines that could sell for $80-$100 tableside at a restaurant, but also more affordable bottles. For those who choose to buy a bottle after the tasting, all the wines featured will be 50 percent off. If you buy six bottles of the vintage, take an additional 10 percent off.

"It's a great introduction to wines you may have never tried before," she says.

Their next one will be July 18. Their July theme will be a "taste of Italian summer wines," a mix of red and whites.

"We'll 'walk through' four different regions in Italy and try wines that are all light-bodied with a higher acidity and all pair well with summer foods, such as salads. In August, we are serving wines from (Italian importer) Trinchero. We plan to do this all into the fall and winter, and as we move into the fall we will offer more seasonal wines that complement heavier foods."
