Two people were killed in Plainfield when a tree fell on their vehicle, officials said Friday morning. The men, ages 79 and 25, were pronounced dead at the scene just before 7 p.m. from their injuries. Their names and hometowns were not released.

Woman Killed As Tree Falls On Vehicle
A Middlesex Borough woman was killed when a tree fell on her vehicle when she pulled over during the intense storm on Thursday, North Plainfield police said.
The 44-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, was driving east on Greenbrook Road about 6 p.m. when the thunderstorms that passed through the area intensified, Police Chief Alan McKay said Friday.
The woman, who was alone, pulled over. As she waited for the storm to ease, a large tree uprooted, lifting the sidewalk with it, and fell across Greenbrook Road, landing on the woman's vehicle and damaging a second vehicle and several homes, McKay said.

Stampede Ensues During Fireworks Show
A stampede took place in Jersey City on Friday during the July 4 fireworks, according to media reports. Panic ensued at a July 4th celebration near the waterfront in Jersey City over the holiday weekend after large crowds of people rushed to find exits in a stampede-like situation.

2 Killed In July 4 House Fire
Two people were found dead in a powerful fire that tore through a Pennsauken house on July 4.
Firefighters were dispatched to the 1600 block of 48th Street at 11:29 p.m. Friday. There were heavy fire conditions on the second floor and two people unaccounted for when first responders arrived, according to the Pennsauken Fire Department.
Firefighters found the occupants on the second floor and carried them outside. Both people were pronounced dead at the scene.

2 Firefighters Injured, 14 People Displaced In July 4 House Fire
Two firefighters were injured while battling a four-alarm house fire on July 4, which displaced 14 people and damaged two homes.
On July 4, at 5:06 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a possible fire on 17 Southard Street. On arrival, they found two 2 1/2 story wood frame buildings with heavy smoke and fire showing from the rear and heavy exposures on both sides, the Paterson Fire Department said.
Fourteen residents were displaced as both initial buildings were significantly damaged; however, no resident suffered any known significant personal injuries, authorities said. Two Paterson firefighters were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with injuries, the fire department said.
