3 NJ Pedestrians Run Down, 2 Killed, In 24 Hours

One of the victims was a 77-year-old Bridgewater resident who was crossing the road to reach the bus stop.

NEW JERSEY – In the past 24 hours, three pedestrian were struck by cars in different spots around the Garden State, two of them killed in the crashes. One of the pedestrians who lost her life was a 77-year-old woman.

Bridgewater

A 77-year-old Bridgewater woman was killed after she was hit by a car while trying to cross the road Sunday morning.

On Sunday, Nov. 19 at 9:55 a.m., Bridgewater Township Police responded to Union Avenue (State Highway 28) near the intersection of Finderne Avenue, on reports of a fatal crash involving a pedestrian.

When officers arrived, they found Maria Arevalo Zuniga, 77, of Bridgewater. The woman was walking across Union Avenue trying to reach the bus stop on the opposite side of the roadway when she was hit, Bridgewater Police Traffic Safety Officer Cole Taggert said.

The vehicle involved in the crash was driven by David Kumar, 73, of Somerville. Kumar was driving east on Union Avenue.

Arevalo Zuniga succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by at 4:48 p.m. The cause of the crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed yet.

Galloway

A Galloway man was struck and killed by a pickup truck while crossing a road Sunday evening, according to police.

Myoung-Chun Jang, age unknown, was crossing West Moss Mill Road when he was struck by a Toyota Tundra, police said.

The vehicle was driven by Michael Stewart, 18, of Hamilton. Stewart was driving westbound on West Moss Mill Road in the area of Bremen Avenue.

Jang was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Division where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The accident remains under investigation.

Bordentown

A stretch of Route 206 has been closed in both directions Monday morning, after a pedestrian accident, officials said.

Closures were reported at about 11:30 a.m. near Farnsworth Avenue in Bordentown, according to the NJ Department of Transportation (NJDOT). All northbound and southbound lanes remain closed and detoured as of noon, the state agency said.

Further information about the accident wasn't immediately available.
